Messalonskee volleyball team hopes for deeper state tournament run

OAKLAND, Maine (WABI) – The Messalonskee Eagles came very close to the Class B State Volleyball Championship last season.

In the state semifinals, they lost to the eventual state champion Yarmouth Clippers in five sets.

This group is ready to give another shot at the golden ball.

“I’m so ready to get back. I think we all are. That’s what we’re coming for. We want to go to states and we all plan on going,” said senior outside hitter and defensive specialist Ava Perino.

“We’re excited and ready to play again. We have a few new girls who haven’t played before, but they’re really adjusting to the new environment, so I think we’ll do really well,” said senior libero Sofia Derosby.

“We had a great season last year. I think this loss lit a new fire in us and made us want to do better this year,” said senior outside hitter and defensive specialist Olivia Thomas.

The Eagles will start with a 6 p.m. Friday away game against Brewers.
