2025 Volvo XC90 facelift unveiled globally with cosmetic updates and new PHEV hybrid

Volvo has taken the wraps off its new XC90 facelift, bringing a comprehensive update to the automaker’s flagship ICE luxury SUV. The 2025 Volvo XC90 facelift sees a refresh and a revamp to the exterior and interior, keeping it relevant among newer rivals. This is the second major facelift since it was first introduced nearly a decade ago. The last major overhaul was introduced globally in 2019. The updated XC90 also signals a revamp in Volvo’s plans, as the brand reasserts its electric ambitions.

Second generation Volvo XC90 The latest update of this model, which has been on the market since 2014, comes with a new grille with cross slats reminiscent of those on the new-generation BMW X3The signature Thor hammer-themed LED DRLs have been revised and the front bumper has been updated with new vertical air vents, with a lower air intake now projecting further out. The profile remains the same, save for the new alloy wheels, while at the rear there are slightly revised LED taillights with a new pattern while retaining the vertical cluster. The XC90 has aged well over the last decade and the latest update only gives it a fresh look.

The cabin features a larger 11.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a revised user interface, and the interior also features recycled materials

There are also changes to the cabin, including a new 11.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system that replaces the old 9-inch unit. The new vertically stacked display appears to jut out from the centre console, which has climate control buttons below. The new display also has a 21% sharper pixel density than the outgoing model. What’s more, the display gets new shortcuts to apps and controls on the home screen. The plug-in hybrid version also gets a special electric driving mode shortcut.

Volvo also claims the XC90 facelift features improved soundproofing for a quieter cabin, apart from new accents and new recycled materials on the dashboard and door pads. There’s more storage space throughout the cabin, including an additional cupholder in the centre console, while the wireless charging pad has been repositioned behind the central tunnel.

2025 Volvo XC90 Plug-in Hybrid Facelift

Volvo has yet to reveal full specifications, but the XC90 facelift gets a plug-in hybrid capable of a range of 69km (WLTP) on electric power alone and around 800km on petrol and hybrid technology. Mild hybrid petrol engines will also be available on the SUV, while the diesel engine has been dropped altogether.

The SUV also gets an air suspension on top trims that can increase ground clearance by 1.57 inches or reduce it by up to 0.8 inches. Other feature enhancements include new active chassis technology that will monitor the road and vehicle and optimize the suspension accordingly at a rate of 500 times per second.

2025 Volvo XC90 Facelift India Launch

The new Volvo XC90 facelift is likely to arrive in India sometime next year. It will be joined by the all-new EX90 all-electric flagship and the EX30, the most accessible EV globally. The Volvo XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge will also be launched next year as the renamed EX40 and EC40 Recharge.
