San Francisco Basketball Player Includes Huskies in Final 5

Jasir Rencher is a lot like Jack Reacher; both real and fictional, men who have a physical presence and bring a lot of intrigue to what they do.

Reacher was a movie role starring Tom Cruise and Alan Ritchson — Reacher is a realistic, compelling character.

Rencher, a 6-foot-8 shooting guard who graduated from San Francisco’s Archbishop Riordan High School in 2025, narrowed his college choices this week to LSU, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Washington.

His connection to the Huskies dates back 13 months, starting with an offer he received from Coach Danny Sprinkle while he was at Utah State and continuing with his new UW roster.

“Washington, I FaceTimed him for 40 minutes,” Rencher said in an interview with Sprinkle’s Simply Basketball when asked about the person he felt had a strong recruiting connection with.

Sprinkle offered the big guard to Utah State on Sept. 18 of last year, and Mike Hopkins’ UW staff extended its own offer last year on Oct. 17. The guard is scheduled to visit the Husky on Oct. 5.

Rencher, who plays for Damon Lillard’s AAU basketball team, is the No. 92 player in the country according to 247Sports, the No. 16 small forward (but more commonly talked about as a guard) and the No. 12 player in California.

What’s most intriguing about him is that he plays above the rim more than most guards, yet he still has elite three-point shooting ability.

Last season, Riordan helped lead his team to a 25-5 record and an advancement to the CIF Northern California state tournament. The team lost to Salesian College Preparatory School, 49-44, in the semifinals, ending a 16-game winning streak.

Rencher says that while there is a lot to like about him, he can choose any school he wants, but he only has one criterion that is important to him and must be met.

“I want to play as a freshman,” he said. “I want to make an impact as a freshman.”
