Lady Gaga Gets Rave Reviews for Joker: Folie à Deux – Music News

Lady Gaga received rave reviews for her performance in Joker: Folie à Deux.

The actress captivated audiences and received praise from most critics for her role as the villainous Harleen “Lee” Quinzel in the Joker sequel.

“Gaga is wisely low-key,” Pete Hammond wrote for Deadline. “She convincingly demonstrates her love and connection to the Joker and, more importantly, the man behind the makeup.”

Gaga, 38, stars opposite Joaquin Phoenix, 49, who plays the unstable character in the film.

“Gaga is a compelling, vibrant presence who blurs the line between intimacy and obsession,” David Rooney told The Hollywood Reporter.

Many critics suggested that Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, was “underused” by the film’s director, Todd Phillips.

“The casting of Lady Gaga was certainly promising, since she’s a terrific actor and was put on earth to do musicals (among other things),” Owen Gleiberman wrote for Variety. “But Gaga, who is a lovely, unforced presence in Folie à Deux, is seriously underused.”

David Erlich echoed the sentiment in his review for IndieWire, writing, “Phillips’ decision to cast a generational superstar in a role designed to maximize both his transcendent talents as a singer and his screen presence as an actor, so that when he’s not hammering away at the musical numbers, he can take a backseat to the courtroom… well, that’s far more criminal than anything Arthur Fleck does in this movie.”
