Sohum Shah completes Hastar’s journey from Tumbbad! | Pragativadi

The exciting and gripping trailer for Tumbbad, presented by Eros Now, has been released, leaving everyone in shock and reviving nostalgia for this folk horror film.

As the film gears up to return to theatres on September 13, it offers viewers a new opportunity to delve into the chilling world of Tumbbad, a unique blend of horror and fantasy set in a fictional, mythological village. Amidst the growing excitement for its re-release, Sohum Shah takes viewers closer to the thrill with footage of the black Hastar, recapping the journey of its creation and the unparalleled efforts put in by the team to make what we see on screen.

Sohum Shah took to his social media and shared photos of Hastar when the team first shot the scene. At that time, she was black, not red – like in the final film, and there was no uterus. The team then reshot the entire hashtag.

What we saw in Tumbbad was Hastar, soaked in blood and terrifying, its red tone striking fear into the hearts of viewers. However, it didn’t start out that way. The Tumbbad team built Hastar with extreme difficulty and many tests. Even after shooting and editing the entire sequence, they decided to discard it because it didn’t meet the high standards they envisioned. They shot it again but were still not satisfied, so they continued to improve it.

This level of dedication is similar to what legendary filmmakers like K. Asif, Raj Kapoor and Kamal Amrohi are known for. Sohum Shah sold the properties and waited patiently to give the film what it needed, even when most of the industry and some crew members believed the film was doomed to fail and would never be completed. He continued to perfect the film until he was completely satisfied with the final product and now the results speak for themselves.

Its success speaks for itself, Tumbbad became a critical triumph, garnering eight nominations at the 64th Filmfare Awards and winning three awards for Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction and Best Sound Design. It was also the first Indian film to premiere in the Critics’ Week section of the 75th Venice International Film Festival.

Tumbbad is directed by Rahi Anil Barve, with Anand Gandhi as creative director and Adesh Prasad as assistant director. Written by Mitesh Shah, Prasad, Barve and Gandhi, the film is produced by Sohum Shah, Aanand L. Rai, Mukesh Shah and Amita Shah. Along with Sohum Shah, the film also stars Jyoti Malshe and Anita Date-Kelkar. The film is not available on any OTT platforms.
