INDIANAPOLIS – A recent poll shows that a majority of high school baseball coaches in the state of Indiana support holding the State Tournament.

The Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association (IHSBCA) recently conducted a survey among its members on the long-talked-about topic.

Three questions were asked: 1) Do you support seeding the State Tournament? 2) If we were to be seeded, what method would you prefer to determine seeds? 3) Do you support the proposed format of seeding the Geographic Quads, doubling the champions and balances in each round?

The results show that the majority of respondents are in favor of some form of insemination. 291 of the IHSBCA’s 389 members participated in the survey, or 74.8% of members.

Of the 291 participants, 72.9 percent support seeding at the State Tournament, with the majority of participants preferring seeding to be determined by a computer system rather than a vote by coaches.

More than 76 percent of those surveyed support shaping seeds into Geographic Quadrangles.

If the proposed format is adopted, seeding will occur at the end of the season according to the pre-determined Geographic Quads in each of the four classifications. All teams will be seeded, with the higher seed receiving an advantage.

The IHSBCA is allowed to submit a proposal to the IHSAA every two years. The IHSBCA is currently concerned with possible changes to the state tournament format, the addition of a week to the season schedule, safety issues, and increased opportunities for game development.
