Linkin Park reunites with new music 7 years after Chester Bennington’s death

NEW YORK — NEW YORK (AP) — Linkin Park are back with a new lineup and are releasing their first new music The death of lead singer Chester Bennington in 2017.

On Thursday, the band launched a livestream introducing new singer Emily Armstrong and drummer Colin Brittain, who join returning members Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Phoenix and Joe Hahn. Shinoda and Armstrong will share vocal duties. The new lineup released a single called “The Emptiness Machine” and announced a new album called “From Zero.” It’s set for release on Nov. 15.

The rock-rap group was one of the most commercially successful groups of the 2000s, thanks to Bennington’s vocals. He died by suicide at the age of 41, shortly after the group’s final album was released. “One More Light.” Since then, Linkin Park has released a series of reissues, including 20th-anniversary editions of their albums “Hybrid Theory,” “Meteora” and, this year, “Papercuts,” which features the greatest hits of their career.

“Before Linkin Park, our first group name was Xero. This album title signifies both that humble beginning and the journey we are currently undertaking,” Shinoda said in a statement announcing the upcoming album.

Armstrong hails from the alternative rock band Dead Sara and is a songwriter and producer who has worked with Brittain, Papa Roach, One OK Rock and All Time Low. He replaces original drummer Rob Bourdon, who “decided to leave,” a band representative told The Associated Press.

“The more we worked with Emily and Colin, the more we enjoyed their world-class talent, their label, and what we created,” Shinoda said. “We feel truly empowered by this new lineup and the vibrant and energetic new music we’re making together. We’re bringing together familiar sonic touchpoints and still discovering new ones.”

The band also announced a “From Zero World Tour” this month, with five arena shows in Los Angeles, New York, Hamburg, Germany, London and Seoul, and a sixth in Bogota, Colombia, in November.
