Winter Shares ‘They Are Gutting a Body of Water’ Remix; Will Be On Tour With The Marias

Winter has shared a remix of Philadelphia shoegaze sensations They Are Gutting a Body of Water’s song “shaniatwainlovestory.” While the original experimented with UK garage and glitchy electronics, the TAGABOW remix brings those elements to the forefront, highlighting both artists’ appreciation for dance music. Alongside the remix, Winter has announced a series of EU dates supporting The Marías, who will be kicking off their national tour with Spirit of the Beehive in October. Tickets available HERE.

On the remix, Samira Winter says, “Watching Doug instantly remix “shaniatwainlovestory” at Julia Recs warehouse in Philly was truly one of the coolest and most inspiring experiences. There was an endless amount of electricity and creativity in his process as he experimented with rhythms and vocal manipulations that went as far as creating new words. To me, it’s already a track that crossed interesting sonic boundaries, and now this new version takes it to a new artistic place.”

Brazilian-American artist Samira Winter has been building a cult following with her unique take on ethereal shoegaze since the early 2010s. She spent her formative years in Curitiba, Brazil, where her mother filled their home with the mellow melodies of MPB (Brazilian popular music) and her father introduced her to the warped sounds of American punk. After moving to Boston for college, she eventually relocated to Los Angeles and carved out her own unique path within the city’s thriving underground scene. Initially influenced by classic dream pop and ’90s indie, Winter’s sound quickly evolved into something of its own, developing a kind of dreamy, fairytale surrealism that set her apart from her contemporaries.

His new EP, …and he’s still listeningIt’s named after the Russian fairy tale Vasilisa, in which a young girl finds freedom by listening to a doll given to her deceased mother, freeing herself from the clutches of evil and escaping an enchanted forest. “On a personal level, I felt like in order to complete this EP, I needed to conquer things within myself and get to a place of my own inner freedom,” she explains. The four-track came to life during a nomadic period in which Winter commuted between London, Vermont, New York and Los Angeles. It’s a catalogue of her own emotional journey about trusting intuition and creating space to hear one’s inner voice, and loosely follows the semi-fictional journey of a girl travelling through a ‘dark forest’.

The EP is her first new music since the release of her 2022 album. Which Blue Are You?2023 featuring SASAMI and Hatchie remix collection Taken from the album featuring Water From Your Eyes, Avey Tare, Day Wave and Dream, Ivory.
