Linkin Park Taps Emily Armstrong from Rock Band Dead Sara as New Singer, Announces ‘From Zero’ Tour and Album

Linkin Park’s new backing vocalist will be Emily Armstrong of Dead Sara, the band announced at a live event on Thursday. Colin Brittain, a songwriter and producer for G Flip, Illenium and One OK Rock, will also join the band as drummer.

The announcement comes with a new single, “The Emptiness Machine,” the band’s first new music release in seven years, and the lead single from an upcoming album called “From Zero.” The set is set to be released on November 15 (via Warner Records) as the band’s first full-length since 2017’s “One More Light,” which came out two months before the lead vocalist’s death. The band, which now includes two new members Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Phoenix and Joe Hahn, will also embark on a six-date arena tour, visiting Los Angeles, New York, Hamburg, London, Seoul and Bogota. See the full tour itinerary below.

Linkin Park performed together for the first time in Los Angeles on Thursday, with fans with tickets being transported to the studio space by bus. The event was livestreamed and will be available to watch on Linkin Park’s official online channels for the next 24 hours.

According to the press release, Shinoda, Delson, Farrell and Hahn “quietly began reuniting in recent years,” and “rather than trying to reboot the band,” they worked with a wide range of musicians and “formed a special kinship with Armstrong and Brittain.”

Shinoda said in a statement about the new era, “Before Linkin Park, our first band was called Xero. This album title signifies both that humble beginning and the journey we are currently undertaking. Sonically and emotionally, it’s about the past, present, and future – embracing our signature sound, yet new and vibrant. It was made with deep appreciation for our new and longtime bandmates, friends, family, and fans. We are proud of where Linkin Park has come over the years and excited for the journey ahead.”

“The Emptiness Machine” is said to “reflect the DNA of Linkin Park.” Shinoda said the band “really got stronger with this new lineup and the vibrant and energetic new music we’re making together,” adding that they’re “bringing together familiar sonic touchpoints and still discovering new ones.”

Pre-sale tickets for the “From Zero” tour will be available to the LP Underground fan club starting September 6. General sales will begin the following day on September 7.

The announcement follows Linkin Park’s release of “Papercuts (Singles Collection 2000-2023)” earlier this spring. The 20-track LP collected the best-selling band’s biggest hits from over two decades. Released via Warner Records, it featured songs like “In the End,” “Burn It Down,” the Jay-Z mash-up “Numb/Encore,” and “Lost,” which helped its parent LP “Meteora” return to the top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart.
