The father of a 14-year-old boy who allegedly shot and killed two teachers and two students in a deadly school shooting that rocked a small Georgia community has been arrested.

Colin Gray, father of 14-year-old suspect, arrested and charged second degree murder The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) released a statement on the matter on Thursday.

Gray, 54, was charged with two counts of second-degree murder, as well as four counts of involuntary manslaughter and eight counts of cruelty to children, according to the GBI.

The GBI announced the arrest on Wednesday at a press conference on Thursday evening.

GBI Director Chris Hosey said this is a “difficult” time for the community.

“We know this is a very difficult time for students and parents, and a lot of students and parents in this state and in this district are scared,” he said. “You’ve probably all seen reports today of incidents at various schools across the state where other students have made threats. In each of these incidents, police law enforcement have filed charges and made arrests, and they’ve acted very quickly because we take these types of incidents very seriously across the state.”

Hosey called on the community to “come together and be vigilant” following the deadly mass shooting.

“This is a time for all of us as a community and as a state to come together and remain vigilant,” he said. “Students should be supported and encouraged in this community and across the state to contact their school’s faculty if they have any concerns about suspicious activity that they see.”

“Local, state and federal law enforcement agencies will continue to work together around the clock regarding this incident and other incidents that occur throughout the state of Georgia that raise concerns for the safety of our students, faculty and citizens.”

Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith announced that all nine injured, including two teachers and seven students, will recover.

Smith asked the audience to “uplift our society.”
